Popular Kuchipudi dancer Shobha Naidu passed away in the early hours of Wednesday at a private hospital in Hyderabad. She was undergoing treatment for the past few days. She was 64.
Shobha Naidu was born in 1956 at Anakapalli, Visakhapatnam district in Andhra Pradesh and made her debut in Kuchipudi at the age of 12.
She received her training in Kuchipudi dance from Vempati Chinna Satyam. Shobha, who excelled in the roles of Satyabhama, Padmavati and Chandalika, received the civilian honour of Padma Shri in 2001.
The Kuchipudi exponent also served as head of the 40-year-old Kuchipudi Art Academy, Hyderabad and trained more than 1,500 students from India and abroad.
