Popular Telugu actor Nagarjuna, co-owner of the Mahi Racing Team India, Monday said he was thrilled over his team winning a second consecutive race at the 2013 World Supersport Championship in Motorland Aragon, Spain, a day ago.
Nagarjuna, who along with another co-owner Nandish Domlur is in Spain, said in a statement released here Monday that he was excited over the team's back-to-back win.
Mahi team rider, the Frenchman Fabien Foret, finished the race with 37 minutes 10.286, 6.595 seconds ahead of Michael Van der Mark of PataHonda World Supersport team.
It was the Frenchman's 16th race win of his career.
The 2002 WSS Champion now becomes the new leader in the current World Championship. Mahi team, Asia's first super motorbike racing team, is promoted by Rhiti MSD of Indian cricket team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and N-Motorsport of Nagarjuna, Domlur and Naga Chaitanya.
"We are absolutely thrilled with our team's victory today (Sunday). During the qualification round, we knew that our riders were all set to recreate the Philip Island magic in Spain and they did not disappoint us," said Nagarjuna.
The team's second rider, Kenan Sofuoglu, who had given the team its first win at Philip Island, Australia, in February, was forced to retire on the second lap due to a technical snag in his Kawasaki ZX-6R.
Sofouglo is the defending and three-time world champion.
"It is a great win for our team. We look forward to maintaining our consistent performance throughout the season," said Fabien Foret.
The 2013 race season is expected to have 15 rounds. Supported by Kawasaki as its factory team, with Andrew Stone as technical director, the Mahi team will be moving on to the next race at Assen in Netherlands, April 28.
The Indian round will be held at the Buddh International Circuit in November this year.
