Megastar's 'Acharya' which hit the marquee on 29th April has bagged a negative response from the critics as well as the audience. The lack of energy from Chiranjeevi and below-par work from Koratala shocked the audience. Trade experts are already predicting that the film would end up in losses and the situation is quite bad near the theatres.
There are reports of the theatres reducing the ticket rates in AP already in order to attract the crowds. Also, the early morning shows were canceled in some areas while 'Acharya' was replaced by 'KGF â 2' in some parts of Karnataka due to low occupancy. While this is the situation in India, things are equally bad in the overseas market.
The advance bookings were quite decent as the film got $600K from the premiers. But the bad talk made people change their minds as some of them canceled their tickets on the first day itself according to reports. The film did not manage to get an estimated figure at the US market due to this and it is going to be even worse on Saturday and Sunday.
Trade pundits reveal that 'Acharya' may not get more than $1.5 million by the end of its run which is not at all sufficient considering the rate at which the buyers bought the film for. People are showing more interest in visual extravaganzas like 'RRR', 'KGF â 2' and rooted dramas or commercial entertainers. Mass action films were never preferred by the overseas audience. Let us wait and see what happens.
