Last year, the makers of Baahubali surprised everyone by combining both parts of the legendary work into a single film titled “Baahubali: The Epic”. Despite its massive runtime of 3 hours and 44 minutes, audiences across India have enjoyed it, with the film collecting almost ₹50 crores at the box office. While Prabhas and Rajamouli fans enjoyed the film, others have come to know about the technical brilliance of the movie, which was created almost 10 years ago.
Guess what, there’s no Baahubali Epic on any OTT platform in India to catch up. While the Hindi version of Baahubali: The Epic is available on Netflix, there’s no Telugu version anywhere. Even the Blu-ray edition of the film released in Japan has the Telugu audio track on it, but the Netflix version does not. This is where the Telugu audience got shocked. Industry sources say this is largely due to the way satellite and OTT rights were sold. Since the rights of the film are split across different platforms, including Netflix, Hotstar, and Zee5 as well, the Telugu version of the Epic cut has not made its way to streaming services.
As a result, the Blu-ray copies released in Japan are now available on piracy platforms for the Telugu audience, and many movie lovers are said to be downloading it. People might wonder where this Blu-ray is coming from, but the makers of many movies still release these costly DVDs in the USA and Japan even now, as there are many who watch films on Blu-ray players with DVDs even today. In India, the DVD culture has fast disappeared, though we started much later than the USA audience, and OTT platforms have penetrated into that space.
