Dil Raju, often a signal of clarity in the often cryptic world of Tollywood, has once again shone a spotlight on a pressing industry issue. At the trailer launch of the small-scale film 'Revu', the veteran producer delivered a candid assessment of the current theatrical landscape.

Raju pointed out a stark reality: the over-reliance on OTT platforms has diluted the theatrical experience. By rushing films to digital platforms within a month of release, the industry has inadvertently conditioned audiences to stay at home. While acknowledging that exceptional content can still draw crowds, he emphasized the need for a strategic shift.

The producer's observations resonate with the industry's growing concerns. Blockbuster films like 'Salaar', 'Guntur Karam', and 'Tillu Square' have seen their theatrical runs curtailed by early OTT releases. In contrast, the delayed OTT debuts of 'Hanuman' and 'Kalki 2898 AD' have worked in their favor.

It's evident that a recalibration is necessary. The Bollywood industry has already enforced a strict 50-day theatrical window before OTT release, a policy adhered to by both big and small films. Malayalam cinema has followed suit with similar restrictions. Tamil Nadu's producers' federation has also issued guidelines to curb the OTT rush. The question now is whether Tollywood will follow suit. Dil Raju's statement has ignited a much-needed conversation, and it remains to be seen if the industry will take concrete steps to protect the theatrical business.
