Thalapathy Vijay’s Jana Nayagan, which is actually based on the Telugu film Bhagwanth Kesari, is aiming for a January 10th release. Surprisingly, the film’s Telugu version, titled Jana Nayakudu, is also trying to get released, though the Telugu audience has seen the original just a couple of years ago.

Reports are popping up that the plans have hit a roadblock with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), triggering a delay in its clearance. This film, touted to be the last cinematic outing of Vijay, is actually full of political satires on opponents. If we look at the trailer of the film, Jana Nayagan is full of Vijay’s political commentary, giving various references to his political entry.

With CBFC feeling that more than a commercial entertainer, the movie is loaded as an agenda-laced machine to drive Vijay’s ambitions, they have asked for a lot of cuts and dialogue mutes. With Vijay expressing his desire to contest in elections as the leader of his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), the certification delay will have a ripple effect on promotional plans and advance ticket bookings too.

Several TVK leaders are already accusing the CBFC of deliberately delaying approval, framing the issue as politically motivated rather than purely procedural. As a final step, Jana Nayagan’s team has now knocked on the doors of the Court to get justice.
