Kamal Haasan Reveals Factors Behind Indian 2's High Cost
"The budget was not just decided by the director and the script. Covid decided our budget.
Veteran actor Kamal Haasan has opened up about the massive budget of his upcoming film "Indian 2", citing the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and on-set accidents as key factors.
Haasan praised the "tenacity" of the producer Lyca Productions and director S. Shankar for persevering with the project despite the setbacks, refusing to "orphan this child". The film's budget was not just decided by the director and script, as the COVID-19 pandemic and some accidents on set significantly delayed and increased the costs.
"The budget was not just decided by the director and the script. Covid decided our budget. Some of the accidents delayed the budget. The tenacity of the producer and the director must be applauded even before the film becomes a hit," Haasan said. He acknowledged that it would have been easy to abandon the project, but the decision by Lyca and Shankar to see it through is commendable.
Indian 2 is the official sequel to Shankar's 1996 vigilante action film Indian, which also starred Kamal Haasan in a double role. The much-anticipated film has been in the making for over five years, facing several production delays. Despite the challenges, the film's combination of Kamal Haasan and director Shankar has generated significant buzz and fetched a record-breaking price in the Telugu states.
