Is Varun Tejs Korean Kanakaraju Inspired by a Real-Life Place?

The upcoming film Korean Kanakaraju, starring Varun Tej, has already created excitement among movie lovers. The film is a unique Indo-Korean horror comedy and is scheduled to release in theatres on August 7. During a recent interaction, director Merlapaka Gandhi shared the interesting story behind the films idea.

The director was asked whether a new story usually begins with a character, a concept, a hero, or a particular situation. He was also asked if he writes stories by keeping a certain actor in mind, especially after seeing someone like Varun Tej.

Replying to the question, the director said that it does not happen in a fixed way. He explained that the idea for Korean Kanakaraju came from a real-life experience while travelling to a wedding in Bengaluru.

During the journey, he noticed the huge Kia factory near Penukonda. Around the factory, he saw many Korean people living there. He also noticed Korean restaurants, shops, and streets that reflected Korean culture. Seeing such a different culture in a small town surprised him.

The director felt it was a fresh and interesting setting for a movie. He wondered how Korean culture and a place like Penukonda could come together in one story. That unusual combination became the starting point for the films script.

He said the story was not inspired by a hero or a character first. Instead, it was the location and the cultural contrast that sparked his imagination. From that single observation, the entire story of Korean Kanakaraju slowly developed.

Meanwhile, the film has also made headlines for its business. According to reports, the makers have reportedly closed a non-theatrical deal worth Rs 26 crore, which includes the digital streaming and satellite television rights. However, the makers have not officially confirmed the deal yet.

The film stars Varun Tej in the lead role, with Ritika Naik as the female lead and Satya playing an important character. The music is composed by Thaman S.

Apart from Korean Kanakaraju, Varun Tej is also working on another film titled Bhari, a sports action drama in which he will be seen playing a volleyball player. The project is directed by Yadhu Vamsee.
