The mindset of the jury members is completely different when they are picking the winners of the National Awards. They used to only consider movies with deep meaning, good message and films that do not send wrong messages to the society. Even while presenting the Best Actor and Actress awards, they used to consider the type of character they played and most awards used to go to good-hearted characters only. They used to dismiss commercial movies completely.

They made sure to avoid characters with negative shades and roles that can spoil the society. Due to this, people used to have a different mindset regarding the award winning movies and characters. Many felt that films that did not get any money at the box office are the ones that get awards while movies that became huge commercial hits will be ignored completely.

But things changed a lot over the past few years. When 'Baahubali' got the Best Picture award, everyone were stunned. Many criticized that the National Award was given only by looking at the success. But this trend is continuing forward as well. A lot of people were shocked to see Allu Arjun getting National Award for Best Actor and Devi Sri Prasad winning Best Music Composer for 'Pushpa' songs. Many questioned how an actor who played the role of smuggler could get the Best Actor award while 'Pushpa' songs were too massy to get a National Award according to many.

But, one should look at the conviction with which the actor performed the character but not the traits of the role he played. The same goes with songs too. If crores of people liked those songs, there has to be something impressive in it and one should understand it. There were a few who objected 'Uppena' getting the Best Regional Film (Telugu) instead of movies like 'Sita Ramam'. It looks like the commercial movies are also going to have a good chance of winning National Awards.
