Can Tollywood Repeat A Superstar Krishna?

Already a month of Summer 2026 has gone by, and for the whole of May 2026, there’s no single big release coming from the Telugu film industry. The already released films like Gayapadda Simham and JetLee have been completely washed out by Monday itself if the occupancy rates are anything to notice. Former actor and director, R Narayana Murthy, tried to highlight this situation at the Directors Day event the other day, as he shared thoughts on what Tollywood should do, to actually flourish.

“Is there even one big film in the summer? Only they are making movies one in 3 years and then hiking ticket prices. To make Tollywood flourish, and come out of this uncertainty, directors should do more films, unlike 1 film in 2 years. Like Dasari Narayana Rao, direct more films, if this film industry has to survive. Then, like a Superstar Krishna garu, dear big heroes, act in more films, such that the industry will be flourishing forever,” said Narayana Murthy.

If we look at Superstar Krishna’s filmography, he has one time had almost 16 releases in a year and more than a dozen releases for years. That means, for every month, he came out with a film. Is that even possible today? At the same time, throughout his illustrious career, Dasari Narayana Rao directed more than 150 movies, and our top hit-machines like SS Rajamouli directed a dozen films, while Anil Ravipudi is yet to reach that mark. Well, will Tollywood biggies and heroes and directors even respond to this?
