There are some names that needs to be referred to while talking about the Telugu film industry. While it was Ram Gopal Varma back in the 90s who changed Tollywood and its filmmaking style, it is SS Rajamouli now who took Telugu cinema to pan-Indian level. The elite filmmaker is on top of his game right now and he is a trendsetter when it comes to delivering universally acclaimed films. He is even stunned Hollywood crowd with his movies.
The storytelling and technical standards on an international level and it is his movie that won the first ever Oscar in this country. Though AR Rahman won it before, it was for a Hollywood project he worked on. It all started with 'Baahubali' and we all know that it was a game-changer on many fronts. The entire team worked very hard on this project. At a time when 100 crores budget was considered a massive risk, Rajamouli & Co went ahead and put more than 180 crores on 'Baahubali: The Beginning'.
Arka Media did not compromise at all and gave whatever Rajamouli needed. In the recently released documentary 'Modern Masters', they have showcased Rajamouli's journey. The producers and director went above and beyond for 'Baahubali'. They shared their experiences and claimed that over 95% of the budget was allotted in the making of the film. They reduced all the personal costs.
During their Mahabaleshwar shooting, the team went on a flight and all of them traveled in the economy. While the big actors stayed in a good hotel, Rajamouli and his family along with the rest of the team stayed in a very normal hotel. They had only vegetarian food on the sets for everyone. After the movie is done, Rana took it to producer Karan Johar and showed him. With him liking the film a lot, he agreed to release it in Hindi.
As we know, 'Baahubali 1' got a divide talk when it was released but turned out to be a blockbuster from the 2nd or 3rd day. It minted over 650 crores and the expectations over 'Baahubali 2' increased massively. Rajamouli instantly became a household name across the country.
