Actress Sameera Reddy who is well known to both Bollywood and Tollywood audiences has spoken openly about the difficult experiences she faced during the early days of her film career. In a recent interview, she revealed that color shaming and body shaming badly affected her confidence. Her emotional comments have now become a major topic of discussion on social media.
Speaking to Hauterrfly, Sameera said that she went through a lot of pressure while shooting for her first Hindi film Maine Dil Tujhko Diya in 2002. She shared that makeup artists used makeup that was three to four shades lighter than her natural skin tone. Because of this, her face looked grey instead of natural. She added that special makeup was also applied to the rest of her body so that it matched her face.
Sameera also said that people did not just comment on her skin color. She faced criticism about her weight, body shape, eye color, and even her height. According to her, some people said she was too fat, while others made negative comments about her eyes. She explained that body shaming in the film industry was not limited to skin color, and women were often judged for every part of their appearance.
The actress revealed that when she was around 20 years old, she had very low self-confidence because of these constant comments. She said she regularly wore padded bras, hip pads, and colored contact lenses to change her appearance. If she lost weight, people complained that she looked too thin. If she gained weight, they called her fat. She also said she sometimes had to bend while walking so that she would not look taller than the hero during shoots. She described those days as extremely painful.
After her interview became popular, several social media users started guessing that she was talking about a Telugu star hero because Sameera acted with NTR in the films Narasimhudu and Ashok. However, it is important to note that Sameera did not mention any hero's name in her interview. She only spoke about the struggles she personally faced in the industry. The claims linking her comments to any particular actor are only social media speculation and have not been confirmed by her.
Today, Sameera says she has finally accepted herself and feels proud of who she is. She believes confidence and personality are far more important than physical appearance. After marriage, she moved to Goa with her husband Akshai Varde and their two children. She is now active on social media, where she regularly speaks about women's health, mental strength, self-love, and confidence. Her recent interview has once again started an important conversation about color shaming and body shaming in the film industry.
