Piracy Never Hurts ‘Star Power’ - Proof Inside

Even with the negative talk around the content, without any major commercial highs, and with a non-seasonal release, Superstar Vijay’s last outing, Jana Nayagan, has stunned the box office of Tamil Nadu. The film has already grabbed almost ₹300 crores gross with the poor reviews, and that shows the star power of the incumbent CM of Tamil Nadu. However, the success of Jana Nayagan in terms of raking up this money also gives a clue about something else.

Even before the release of the film, almost months ago, the full final edit of “Jana Nayagan” was leaked online. Despite the film being a remake already, and the leaked version doing rounds everywhere, Jana Nayagan did the unthinkable at the box office. Similarly, we have Attarintiki Daredi in Telugu, the Pawan Kalyan starrer whose HD Print was leaked from the editing suite itself. Despite all those obstacles, the film still made it big and became the industry hit of Tollywood at that time. Vijay Devarakonda’s Taxiwala also faced similar issues, and that movie also did well at the box office.

These movies are not pirated after the release, but they were out in the market much before the actual release. Of course, that brings us to the topic of star-power, which indicates that when people love a star much, they don’t care about the piracy versions or the leaked versions that were released, but watch those movies in theatres only.
