The Telugu film industry is currently undergoing a significant transition when it comes to marketing and production. Several films that are being made on big budgets are not working out at the box office.
Tollywood is currently facing a serious financial issue. Many heroes are charging very high remuneration between ₹7 to ₹12 crores per film—even though their movies are not doing well at the box office. Actors like Ravi Teja, Sharwanand, Nithiin, Gopichand, and Varun Tej are among those getting high payments, but their films are failing to recover even production costs. This is causing huge losses for producers.
In recent years, the OTT boom helped filmmakers recover some losses. But now, even OTT platforms are cutting down their spending and are no longer giving big amounts for digital rights. This has made it very hard for producers to survive in the market.
Due to this situation, many people in the industry are now saying that it is time for top actors to reduce their salaries. If the budget is not controlled, even big films will fail to make profits. Some small and medium-range producers have already stopped working with stars who charge heavily.
There’s now a growing demand that all big actors should help the industry by accepting lower pay until the market stabilizes. Otherwise, Tollywood may face a major slowdown, with fewer releases and growing losses.
