A survey carried out by an international non-governmental organization that works for Environmentalism and Nature conservation sheds light on a decrease in water levels in 100 cities globally.
World Wide Fund for Nature in its recent survey stated that globally, 100 cities might get affected by the water crisis by 2050. The cities include around 50 cities in China and as many as 30 cities in India.
Going by the findings of the survey, the major cities in India like Delhi, Jaipur, Indore, Amritsar, Pune, Srinagar, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Kozhikode, and Vishakhapatnam are in the danger zone.
The survey attributed factors like urbanization, climate change, and the absence of adequate infrastructure that re increasing the risk of the water crisis in these cities.
Citizens of these cities not paying much attention to rainwater harvesting is also an area of concern regarding the water crisis as less than 10 percent of rainwater is being saved while the major portion of natural source is wasted.
Coming to India, the major cities will witness more Urbanization which in turn results in overcrowding and populations. The rise in population in the cities will also consume the resources with every year passing.
Itâs high time we should pay attention to save the rainwater harvesting or else the next generation will find it difficult to cope up with the water crisis.
