after 4-state win, it's advantage BJP for President election

Update: 2022-03-12 05:16 GMT
What is the immediate fall out of the massive victory that the BJP has scored in four state assemblies? Now the BJP is poised to win the presidential elections on its own as it has 50 percent of the votes in its kitty. Thus, with little push from the NDA partners, the party can get its candidate elected as the president and the vice-president of the country. All this would put the party in firm control of national politics.

The total electoral college for the presidential elections is 10,98,903 votes. The electoral college comprises 776 MP votes and 4120 MLA seats. Each MP seat has a value of 708 votes.  With its absolute majority in Lok Sabha and dominant position in Rajya Sabha, the BJP will get the maximum number of votes. It now has slightly less than 2000 MLAs on its side. The value of the MLA's vote varies from state to state. But with big states like UP, Bihar, MP, Assam, Gujarat and Karnataka in its kitty, the value of the MLA vote would be on the higher side for the BJP. It is the largest party in Maharashtra and the second largest party in West Bengal, Rajasthan and Odisha.

In addition, parties like the Biju Janata Dal and the YSRCP are firmly on the BJP's side. It also has states like Himachal, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Goa and Manipur in its kitty. All these make things easy for the BJP in the presidential elections. In the meanwhile, there would be elections to the Rajya Sabha and the BJP is likely to further improve its tally.

Speculations are rife that Ramnath Kovind could get another extension in the Rashtrapati Bhavan. Similarly, many feel that Venkaiah Naidu could be made the president. Other names are also doing rounds in the political circles. The picture would become clearer by May this year.
