After fearing the virus spread, India now fears the transmission of the Covid virus from the dead bodies of the virus. With fear, people are not allowing the cremation of Covid dead bodies in their residential area.

Clearing all the airs on virus transmission from the dead bodies, AIIMS Forensic chief Dr. Sudhir Gupta said that, the risk of virus spread from Covid dead bodies is very less citing the reason that the deadly virus won't remain in nasal and oral cavities after 12 to 24 hours of the death of Covid patients.

The Chief Doctor said that a study was carried out over the past year on COVID-19 positive medico-legal cases pertaining to the post-mortem.

Speaking to the News Agency, Doctor Gupta said, as part of the study, nearly 100 Covid bodies were re-tested to study the Coronavirus infection. The dead bodies were re-tested at a gap of 12 hours and 24 hours after the patient's demise.

The result came back negative and the study has found out that 24 hours after the patient's death, Covid infection won't remain in nasal and oral cavities in the bodies, he said.

The Chief Doctor said that people, those who handle the corpses of the deceased Covid patients should follow all the precautionary measures like wearing facemasks, hand gloves, and PPE Kits.

"Collection of bones and ashes is completely safe as there is no risk of transmission of infection from the mortal remains. The study was conducted in the interest of preserving the dignity of the dead," the doctor said.
