An Air India ground engineer succumbed to death after being sucked into the right engine of an aircraft at Mumbai airport Yesterday. The incident happened at 8.40 pm when the Hyderabad-bound AI 619 flight was moving out of bay 28 for the scheduled take-off.
Air India technician Ravi Subramaniam died on spot. Even though Doctors at airport rushed to the site soon after receiving the information, They were unable to save the life. The body was in a bad condition and post-mortem is impossible at its almost in a liquid form.
Post the incident, The aircraft has been grounded and the passengers boarded another flight in an hour to reach the destination.
The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau is probing the incident from all angles. It is learnt that miscommunication between co-pilot and technician might have resulted in unrepairable loss. Investigation is focusing on whether or not the co-pilot gave an all-clear signal before moving the aircraft.
