Controversial Rashtriya Janata Dal(RJD) party candidate Anant Kumar Singh, who is dubbed as Bahubali candidate by the media emerged victorious in the Bihar Assembly polls.

The Lawmaker candidate has 67 criminal cases against him. However, these cases didn't stop him from contesting the polls and winning the polls from the Makoma Constituency.

Whenever leaders with criminal cases and background wins the elections, the debate of can the law prohibit the political parties from issuing party tickets for contests with criminal cases arises. Anant Kumar Singh is not an exemption from the debate.

A point that has to be noted here in the controversial MLA's case is before the 2015 elections the cops have conducted raids in the MLA's residence and sized AK47 and ammunition. He was sent to jail subsequently.

Several political observers feel that allowing the candidates with a criminal background will pollute the entire political system and the public will start losing faith in the system, which is not good for democracy.

Back in 2018, the Supreme Court heard a plea to ban criminals from entering politics. While ruling out the court said it cannot ban the politicians with a criminal background and left the decision to the Parliament.
