Another key Maoist leader too may very well follow the footsteps of former top leader Muppalla Lakshman Rao alias Ganapathi. If highly placed sources are to be believed, Maoist Central Committee member Mallojula Venugopal aka Bhupathi ka Master alias Sonu alias Abhay , too is planning to surrender to the police. They said he has already initiated the process for surrender.
Venugopal is the brother of Mallojula Koteshwara Rao alias Kishan Ji, who was active in the Bengal region before being killed in an encounter in 2011. Venugopal, who succeeded Kishan Ji after the encounter, is from Peddapalli. He is said to be chiefly responsible for the 2010 Dantewada attack in which over 70 CRPF jawans died.
The police sources are trying to facilitate the surrender of these two leaders. They said that they would extend the same kind of cooperation that they had extended to former Central committee members Jappanna and Sudhakar, who have since surrendered. Old age and chronic ailments are said to be the reason behind the idea to surrender.
Venugopal did a TV and radio mechanic course ,during which he came into contact with the Naxal movement. He also joined a Government job, but left it later to become an underground Maoist. Venugopal has been working underground for the last 35 years. His wife Tarakka alias Narmada was killed in an encounter in December 2018.
