AP BJP wants to Bank on this Caste votes?

Update: 2022-03-28 13:07 GMT
Kamma and Reddy are the two dominant castes in Telugu land. Leaders from both communities have become Chief Ministers. While the focus goes on both states when we talk about dominant castes, there is one more caste that needs a special mention. Despite not taking up the CM post, the community has its stronghold.

Kapu community is also a big caste in the divided Andhra Pradesh now. Though leaders from the community did not hold the CM post, the community can become the deciding factor. Big regions like the Godavari districts and a few regions in Kadapa enjoy a good percentage of the population.

Recently, the leaders from the Kapu community are demanding that they should be given an opportunity for power and a person from the community should be made the Chief Minister. The likes of former Kakinada MP Thota Venkata Narasimham had openly spoken about this.

Compared to the other parties, the AP BJP is focusing on gathering the Kapu community voters. The actions taken by the party made the political analysts think that the BJP is after the Kapu votes.

Somu Veerraju, who is leading the AP BJP belongs to the Kapu community, and even the previous chief Kanna Lakshminarayana is also a Kapu. To cater to the Kapu voters, Kapu leaders were given the chief posts and the leaders are talking about the Kapu reservation. If the votes consolidate, then the party might make an impact in the polls. We have to wait and see how the BJP fares.
