The contractors who are fed up with the Andhra Pradesh government not releasing the funds to clear the bills have launched a series of protests demanding the government to address the long-pending issue as soon as possible. The protesting contractors who are demanding the release of funds are alleging that they are being subjected to harassment.
The protests which were carried out by the State of AP Building Contractors Association had reached the shore city Vizag. As a bid to protest against the non-payment of the long-pending dues, the contractors are protesting by wearing black shirts.
The association members said that they were forced to hit the roads to protest due to their condition. We once gave employment to people, but now we have lost income and we are now selling our properties. If the same situation continues, then the Contractors system will no longer survive. By abiding by the guidelines, we have finished the works, but the payments for the same were not cleared, the Contractors lagged.
Drawing a comparison between YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and his late father Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, the contractors said that YSR had addressed their issue earlier when they explained to him about their issues.
While YSR worked that way, we were made to protest on roads in the current government as the government is not concerned about looking into the issues faced by them. If the funds were released to us then the same would be spent by us in completing a few more works. The payments for the works finished using the Central Government funds were also not made, the contracts said.
The protesting contractors have also expressed their dissatisfaction over a few contractors not showing up for the protests despite facing severe problems. Thye have urged the other contractors also to come forward.
As part of this, the Contractors have decided to stick papers seeking the release of funds on the walls of the offices that are yet to release the funds. We have to wait and see if the contractors can manage to make the state government release the funds.
