MIM President Asaduddin Owaisi fumed at the decision taken by New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) to rename Aurangzeb road after Bharat Ratna APJ Abdul Kalam.
The MIM Chief complains that the name change which is against the norms of NDMC willn't honour the memory of the former President. He points out the NDMC's resolution in 2007 where a decision to not rename the roads if they are connected with the history.
Owaisi suggests introducing Science Scholarships for Muslim & Dalit Students in the name of APJ Abdul Kalam if the intention is to honour the departed soul. He questioning, 'What's wrong if the name Aurangzeb was retained for the road?'.
The Hyderabad MP rules out the claim that Aurangzeb is a Muslim icon with the statement 'The ruler fought against both Muslim & Hindu rulers. He had even demolished a mosque in Golconda'.
