Update: 2020-10-21 08:52 GMT
Poor economic performance and poverty levels come into our mind when we think and talk about the East Indian state Bihar, which shares its borders with Nepal. No government could change these dimensions sadly.

Ahead of the Assembly polls, over 1,000candidates have filed the election nominations, and the assets details submitted by the candidates give us an insight into the other side of the state. According to the election nominations, 153 out of 1,065 candidates are crorepatis.

Manorma Devi, ruling Janta Dal(United) party candidate with assets worth Rs 53 crore is the richest candidate, followed by Rajesh Kumar(Rs 33.6 cr) of Congress.

Out of the top ten crorepati candidates in the state, four candidates belong to the ruling Janta Dal(United) party, while three candidates are from JD(U).

The remaining three crorepatis belong to the Rashtriya Lok Samta Party (RLSP), Congress, and Lok Janshakti Party(LJP) parties. Out of the total candidates, only five candidates said they have no assets.

The criminal record of the lawmakers in the state is also an area of concern. 328 candidates in Bihar have criminal cases against them, which translates to 31 percent.

The asset details of the candidate running for the elections is raising many questions. How come, a state with low economic performance has more than 150 crorepatis.
