Corona scare has done the impossible and the unimaginable. The wine shops in both the Telugu states have remained closed for the last four days. This is the longest period when all the liquor shops have been closed in the Telugu states except for the prohibition period. Thus, the tipplers and guzzlers are passing through the toughest of the times.
With the lockdown till April 15 staring in their face, the bar and wine shop owners are looking at huge losses. To add to their woes, the inter-state vehicular movement has also been curtained. As a result, liquor from neighbouring states too is not reaching the state. Even the arrack shops in the rural areas have been closed down. All these are giving tough times to the Bacchus lovers. They are finding it difficult to buy liquor.
However, some guzzlers say that a huge black market is operating and even cheap liquor is being sold at very high prices. A quarter bottle of the ordinary brand of liquor is now being sold at Rs 350..
Some, however, feel that this is the most opportune time to quit drinking. Non-availability of liquor, closing down of wine shops and the complete lockdown, which is being implemented with gusto, are turning out to be biggest disincentives for drinkers. As for habitual alcoholics, these are the toughest of the times.
