Badvel Bypoll Voter Turnout Baffles All

Update: 2021-10-30 13:16 GMT
The brisk polling in Badvel bypoll in Kadapa is baffling the political rnobservers. Normally, bypolls do not attract voter interest if the rncontest is not prestigious. This time around, the main opposition -the rnTDP -is out of the fray. He has decided not to contest the elections. rnThus, this is a virtual walkover for the YSRCP. Yet, the polling rnpercentage is close to 60 percent.

Interestingly, the Badvel rnresult is foregone conclusion as the BJP, which has put up a candidate,rn does not have much presence. It managed to get just 730 votes in the rn2019 assembly elections. Even with the support of the TDP, the BJP may rnnot really make a mark. Yet, there seems to be great interest among the rnvoters. If the same trend continues, the polling percentage could be rnaround 75 per cent, which in itself is a great record.

Political rnpundits expected up to 50 per cent voter turnout in Badvel bypoll. But rnthe current trends indicate that the polling percentage is likely to rntouch 75 per cent. This is an interesting development, say analysts. Thern voter interest in a no-contest is baffling, they say.

Another rninteresting feature is that the YSRCP, which is sure of its victory, hasrn not distributed money to the voters. The party did the same thing for rnTirupati bypolls, but managed to post a facile win. The party is rnadopting the same strategy in Badvel too. Sources say that the TDP votesrn could have shifted to the BJP in a big way in the bypoll.
