Bangalore gets a NEW NAME

Making changes to the names of cities is not new. We have seen Bombay becoming Mumbai (1995), Madras becoming Chennai (1996), Clacutta becoming Kolkata (2001), Pondicherry becoming Puducherry (2006), Poona becoming Pune (2008) and Orissa becoming Odisha (2011) in the past.

Karnataka Government on Friday evening issued orders changing the names of the state capital and 11 other cities. Have a look at the changes here...

Bangalore to Bengaluru; Belgaum to Belagavi; Mysore to Musuru; Bellary to Ballari; Mangalore to Mangaluru; Gulbarga to Kalburgi; Hubli to Hubballi; Shimoga to Shivamogga; Chikmagalur to Chikkamagaluru; Bijapur to Vijayapura; Hospet to Hosapete and Tumkur-Tumakuru.
