The richest cricket tournament in the world, the Indian Premier League(IPL) that has been providing entertainment to the cricket fans is all set to see two more teams from the next season. With this, the teams playing in the tournament will go up to ten.
The increase in the playing teams count in the IPL was announced by none other than the cricket administrative body in India, the Board of Control for Cricket in India(BCCI). An official statement was released on the BCCI Twitter handle on Tuesday.
Taking to microblogging site Twitter, the BCCI said:" BCCI announces Tender of IPL Media Rights for 2023-2027 cycle". In the same statement, BCCI said that the tender inviting the bids for the media rights will be announced once the two teams were appointed.
"The IPL Media Rights tender for the cycle 2023-2027 will be released immediately after the appointment of two new IPL teams which is scheduled to be announced on 25th October 2021," the BCCI said in the statement.
A few big names, including industrialists, are said to be in the race for the IPL franchises, while Ahmedabad and Lucknow are likely to be the new teams in the IPL. However, there is no official information on the new teams.
As the mega auction is scheduled for next year, we can see a few players playing for different teams from the teams that are representing currently. The franchises who were not happy with the performances of the players will release them to buy new players in the mega auction.
On the other hand, media reports claim that the two teams that will play from the next season of the tournament would be announced on the 25th of next month. If the announcement comes from the BCCI, then the confusion on the teams will be cleared.
