The real hero of the GHMC election was without doubt the BJP. The party did exceedingly well and managed to stop the TRS at just 56. The BJP had won 48 seats. One of its corporators had passed away. Now their number stands at 47. Despite this, it is a formidable opposition.
But it is facing a problem of a different kind. Though the BJP has corporators in 47 divisions, it is the defeated corporators, who are ruling the roost. They are dictating the terms in the GHMC. The officials too are pandering to them and the MLAs, who are all TRS leaders except Raja Singh, are fully backing them. As a result, the BJP corporators, despite winning the elections and getting popular votes, are unable to exercise their authority . Further, the TRS corporators are claiming that they have filed cases against the BJP corporators for hiding the fact that they have more than two children or have furnished false information about their expenditure during elections. They are confident that the BJP corporators will lose their positions and the losing candidate will automatically become the corporators.
