The BJP in Telangana has succeeded in creating an impression of being a serious contender for power in the next assembly elections. There is great enthusiasm among the party cadres and all the public meetings organised in recent times have been block-busters in terms of attendance. State president Bandi Sanjay's Praja Sangrama Yatra too is managing to hog the limelight like never before.
This is a great departure from the poor position in the 2018 assembly elections, where the party had won just one seat and its stalwarts like Kishan Reddy too had to face the ignominy of losing the elections. In fact, the party had lost its deposits in 100 of the 119 seats it had contested. Now, the BJP got over the debacle and is working hard to project itself as a viable alternative to the TRS
But the big problem for the party appears to lie in finding out suitable candidates. As of now, the party has 15 to 20 strong and winnable candidates. In all other constituencies, despite the rising tide of popularity, the party lacks suitable candidates. In most of the other constituencies, the party is looking towards leaders from other parties.
In fact, the BJP has already formed a joinings committee to lure leaders from both the TRS and the Congress. The party is said to be in touch with several such leaders. But the response is none too encouraging. Not many people have joined the party. Many other leaders are said to be in the wait-and-watch mode. They could join the party only if either the Congress or the TRS denied them tickets. Both the BJP hopes that the situation could change for the better if it wins Munugode byelections.
