As the country is gearing up to witness intense election fight in as many as five states the electoral and political reforms watchdog Association for Democratic Reforms ADR has released a report on the Assets owned by various national parties in the country.
The report says that the Bharatiya Janata Party BJP which is ruling at the Center has more assets compared to the other national parties. The assets owned by the saffron party are so high that they translate to as much as 69 percent of all the assets owned by the parties.
Association for Democratic Reforms ADR said that in total the seven national outfits own assets worth Rs 6988.57 crore and Bharatiya Janata Party BJP alone owns assets of 4847.78 crore which translates to 69 percent of total assets.
The other parties are nowhere compared to the BJP as the gap between the assets owned by the parties is very huge. While BJP holds assets to the tune of thousands of crores the other parties Bahujan Samaj Party BSP and Congress own only assets worth hundreds of crores.
BSP has assets worth 698.33 crores and Congress accounts for 588.16 crores worth of assets. Over the years the assets owned by the parties have been increasing massively which now stood at over Rs 6,000 crore.
Not just the national parties a few regional parties also made it to the list of parties that own assets to a big tune. However the regional parties declared assets to a tune of hundreds of crores.
Three parties are accountable for a major share of assets among the regional parties. The opposition party in Uttar Pradesh is the top party in terms of assets with Rs 563.47 crores and the ruling party in Telangana TRS and opposition in Tamil Nadu AIADMK were at the second and third position.
As per the findings of the Association for Democratic Reforms ADR report Telangana Rashtra Samiti and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam have assets worth Rs 301.47 crores and Rs 267.61 crores respectively. To prepare the report the body had examined the affidavits of around 40 regional parties.
