Chief Selector Chetan Sharma Responds To Virat-rohit Rift!

Update: 2022-01-03 10:09 GMT
If there is any news that has created a big controversy and made many heads, then it's surely the infamous Virat Kohli-BCCI saga over the ODI captaincy. Not just the ex-players from India, but the former players from other countries have also responded to the issue and expressed their shock.

The issue took a huge turn when Virat Kohli differed with what Board of Control for Cricket in India(BCCI) chief Sourav Ganguly said on the saga and countered his claims on the ODI captaincy saga. Virat Kohli's press meet also made a few fans think that there might be a rift between Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, the white ball skipper.

Now India's Chief selector Chetan Sharma had stepped in and gave clarity on the lagged rift. He said that there is no truth in such reports and said such speculations should not be believed.

Chetan Sharma made the comments while talking to the press while announcing the Indian squad which would lock horns with South Africa for the ODI series. On the occasion, Mr. Sharma said there are no issues between Virat and Rohit.

Giving more details, Chetan Sharma said he too gets to read such reports and he laughs when he reads the reports. The selector said that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are working together. He also urged everyone to brush off the controversies in the previous year.

The cricketer-turned-selector also said that, when the selection committee was informed about Virat Kohli’s decision, they were in shock and urged Virat Kohli to rethink the decision given the time of the decision. What would you do when a captain announces such a decision ahead of the prestigious event, he asked.

Those who were present during the meeting told Virat Kohli to not go for the decision and the decision can be discussed after the World Cup comes to end. But he had different thoughts. We had to respect his decision, he said.

The selection committee took the decision to have a dedicated white-ball captain and hence Rohit Sharma was made the ODI captain in place of Virat Kohli, he added.
