Corona times: Wedding performed through video call

Update: 2021-05-06 11:41 GMT
In these Corona times, things unthinkable have become the new norm. The bodies of the near and dear are not being claimed just because they are Covid positive. Even the last rites of the departed dear ones are being watched through video conferencing mode.

In a first, a marriage was solemnized via video call as the priest refused to attend in person. The priest relayed the mantras via a whatsapp call from the safe confines of his home, while the bride and the bridegroom, who were staying far away went through the marriage rituals as per the directions given by the priest via a mobile phone.

According to sources, Banoth Manjula of Somla Thanda of Papannapet mandal in Medak district and Patlot Mohan of Bhimla Thanda in Tekmal mandal got married through this video conferencing mode. Very recently there was a Corona death in Manjula's house. Hence, the priest, identified as Digambar, refused to officiate the wedding ceremony.

Upon persuasion he finally agreed to perform the wedding from his home in Papannapet. He chanted mantras and made the bride and groom go through the rituals by giving instructions through his mobile phone. In Corona's Zamana, such strange and unheard of things are bound to happen.
