Since the second wave of Coronavirus hit India, the country is reporting record cases daily. After adding more than 2 lakh cases for nearly seven days, India reported more than 3 lakh cases on April 22.
India, which was the second worst-affected nation with Covid outbreak till yesterday has now become the severely hit nation, by surpassing the previous worst-affected nation United States.
In the past 24 hours, India reported more than 3.14 lakh cases, the highest spike in fresh infections so far, which pushes the total toll of infections in the country to 1.59 crore.
India even surpassed the record made by the United States in terms of reporting single-day infections. The US saw record cases with as many as 3,07,581 new cases on Jan 8, this year.
India recorded the highest fatalities with 2,104 new casualties on April 22. The other day, as many as 2,023 people breathed their last battling the virus. The total Covid-19 fatalities rose to 1,84,657.
Maharashtra continues to be at the top position in the list of worst-hit states in the country. Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Kerala, and Karnataka are the other states tt are facing the wrath of the pandemic.
To take the Coronavirus vaccination drive to more people, the Union Government has announced that from the 1st of May, people above 18 will be vaccinated against the respiratory disease. Currently, people above 45 are being vaccinated with the vaccines.
