In the wake of Covid second wave getting dangerous with each passing day in India, several bodies were found buried on the banks of River Ganga in Uttar Pradesh. These bodies have triggered several fears and worries among the public.
In the previous incidents, there was no proof of who and when the bodies were thrown into the river. Now a video has surfaced on social media, in which the corpse of a Covid patient was thrown in a river.
The incident took place in the Balrampur district in Uttar Pradesh. The entire episode of two people throwing the dead body was shot by a couple of people who were traveling on the same bridge but in the opposite way.
The viral video shows two people lifting the body and throwing the body into a river on the top of a bridge. One of the two people can be seen wearing a PPE Kit.
Media reports claimed that the district Chief Medical Officer(CMO) allegedly confirmed that the dead body was of a deceased Covid patient. The patient's relatives have thrown the body into a river. The duo in the video was arrested by the cops.
"Preliminary investigations have revealed that the patient was admitted to hospital on May 25, and he died three days later on May 28. As per Covid protocol, the body was handed over to his relatives. Preliminary investigations reveal that the relatives threw the body into the river. We have filed a case and strict action will be taken," Balrampur Chief Medical Officer was quoted as saying by the media outlets.
Central Jal Shakti minister Gajendra Shekhawat responded to the incident and said the Center has taken serious note of the issue and said the concerned authorities will make sure that the unidentified bodies will be disposed of based on the protocols.
"We have taken serious note of the issue of dumping dead bodies in River Ganga and instituted measures for the prohibition of the same. The Centre through the NMCG and district authorities will ensure all unidentified bodies are disposed as per the protocol," the Minister tweeted.
