Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called for a video conference with the Chief Ministers of all the states to take their opinion on extending the existing lockdown across the nation as the positive cases in India are increasing rapidly.
The outcome of the video conference is that the lockdown in India will be extended for two more weeks to see that the condition gets under control. The lockdown earlier announced by Modi will come to an end by midnight on the 14th of April.
Soon after the conference, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal took to Twitter to support the daring step taken by the PM in this regard.
"PM has taken correct decision to extend lockdown. Today, India's position is better than many developed countries because we started lockdown early. If it is stopped now, all gains would be lost. To consolidate, it is imp to extend it," his Tweet read.
The COVID pandemic has resulted in deaths of 239 people leaving 7447 people infected with the virus. The positive cases of the novel coronavirus are inching towards 1,000 in the national capital Delhi alone.
