Eateries Ordered Not To offer Free Food In Karnataka!

Update: 2023-05-09 16:12 GMT
Which party will come to power in the Karnataka elections is the question many have. The elections are slated for commencement on Wednesday. The political parties are busy making strategies on how they can influence the voters and get an edge over the others. Even Hanuman Chalisa became political in the state due to the elections.

Amid this, two big restaurants in Bengaluru came up with an offer, saying that those who cast their votes in the elections would be given free food. The owners of the eateries, said that they want to encourage voters to go to polling booths and use their rights and similar offers were announced in the past too.

The civic body in Bengaluru swung into action and said that such offers cannot be made to the voters and cases would be filed if the owners won't follow the orders, media reports said. The officials of the body announced these orders reportedly.

As per the information, the iconic Nisarga Grand Hotel announced that benner dosa, Mysore Pak, and a glass of juice would be offered to people who cast their votes. Those who cast their votes for the first time would also be given movie tickets.

The Chalukya Samrat Cafe also joined the row and announced that free breakfast would be provided for the first-time voters from 7:30 am to 11:30. Posters regarding the same were also set up outside the eatery as per the local media and this caught everyone's attention.

The issue is said to have reached the notice of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagra Palike (BBMP), the civic body of Bengaluru and it issued notices to the eateries that such offers cannot be announced and anyone who violates this has to face the consequences.

Eateries announcing such offers are not new in the state. However, the civic body said that they cannot announce such things and it is against the rules. Though the free breakfast announcements were not made for any party, many say that the parties would bank on that and tell people to go to the hotels after their votes giving an illusion that they had arranged for the breakfast.
