Election Commission Effect: Guns fall silent in Huzurabad

Update: 2021-08-14 11:01 GMT
With the Election Commission setting a deadline of August 30 for sending seeking the opinions of the political parties on holding elections, it is now clear that Huzurabad bypoll may not be held anytime soon.  With this, most politicians who are camping in Huzurabad are now said to be leaving the place. Several leaders from both the TRS and the BJP have already left.

The hectic campaign that was the order of the day till recently has come to a halt and the blaring of the mikes has stopped. On Friday, the campaign was largely low key. On Saturday, there was literally no campaign in Huzurabad. The party workers too have taken a much-needed rest from the hectic electioneering. The officials said that fewer meetings and get-togethers were held in the constituency in the last two days.

However, strategizing, telephone outreach and closed-door meetings are still continuing.  The meetings of key workers of all the main political parties too are going on.  In fact, ever since Eatala Rajender resigned from the TRS, the campaigning began and major political parties are spending huge amounts every day to sustain their campaign. Paying for the party workers, maintaining the offices and backrooms, production of campaign material is a daily exercise and the main parties have set up secret offices to fund these programmes.

According to an insider, the parties will fund production of videos, memes and online content to be circulated. Sources say that the campaign will again pick pace once the dates for election are announced. The leaders and key campaigners will return to Huzurabad  once the schedule is made public.
