Is it the end of the road for Prof. Kodandaram? He had once ruled the Telangana movement and was considered the father figure of the movement. He managed to bring leaders of all hues and parties of various ideologies on one platform during the movement for a separate state. But, several wrong moves and false steps have ensured that his political career went nowhere. He formed TJS and hoped to play a key role in Telangana after he fell out with KCR. The party too attracted several intellectuals and civil society leaders. But, soon his attempts to align with the Congress weakened the TJS. The delay in finalising the candidates and deciding on the seat sharing have ensured that the party was reduced to a zero.
After the 2018 elections, TJS is all but dead and Kodandaram is in limbo. Now, even the Congress Party does not seem to have any value for him. It feels Kondandaram is a pay-by-date cheque. So, when Kodandaram expressed the desire to contest in the Huzurnagar bypoll, the Congress rejected his request outright. The constituency, a burrough of PCC chief Uttamkumar Reddy, is a Congress citadel and Kodandaram could have won easily. But, Uttam Kumar Reddy wants to push the case of his wife, who is a former MLA. So, Kodandaram had to return empty handed. With this, itâs a full circle for Kodandaram. He has no role in Telangana politics anymore.
