Everyone knows the political rivalry between the Kamma and Reddy communities in state politics. In the combined state the fight used to be very intense. The rivalry started with Telugu Desam Party founder chief Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao venturing into politics and becoming the Chief Minister of the state.
The ongoing fight between the ruling YSRCP and the opposition Telugu Desam Party in the divided Andhra Pradesh is also seen as the fight between the two communities as per the experts. The Andhra Pradesh going after Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar and AB Venkateswara Rao are given as examples of this.
Now a former Minister made some interesting comments on the Kamma representation in the state and drew a comparison with the fellow Telugu state Telangana. He mentioned how the community is represented in both states.
Senior politician Vasantha Nageswara Rao who earlier served as the Cabinet Minister recently took part in the Karthikamasa Vanabhojanam event and made some crucial comments. Talking about the representation of the caste in Andhra Pradesh, the Ex-Minister said there is not a single Minister from the community.
He expressed his shock over the nonpresence of a single Kamma Minister in the Cabinet despite the ruling party having a few legislators. Moreover, he is the father of Vasantha Krishnaprasad, YCP MLA who represents the Mailavaram constituency.
He even spoke about the NTR Health University issue and said the community is in a position where they cannot even raise their voices when the government changed the name of the University conceptualized by the Telugu Desam Party government.
Giving the example of Telangana the former Minister said there is a Cabinet Minister in the state. His comments surprised everyone as he is with the ruling party and his son is serving as the legislator.
The TRS government made Puvvada Ajay Kumar a Cabinet Minister. The community here is in a good position and can be the deciding factor in key areas like Kukatpally and adjacent areas. Recently the state government made a demand seeking the highest civilian award in the country Bharat Ratna and the experts say that this is an attempt to cater to the community.
