As the latest addition to the Afghanistan crisis, an explosion was reported outside the airport in the capital city Kabul on Thursday. A few people are expected to be injured.
Taking to Twitter Pentagon Spokesman John Kirby said that an explosion had taken place outside the Kabul Airport. It is unclear about the casualties, John Kirby said.
"We can confirm an explosion outside Kabul airport. Casualties are unclear at this time. We will provide additional details when we can," his tweet reads.
Thousands of people were inside the airport when the alleged explosion took place. Hundreds of Afghan nationals, fearing the Taliban troops, are staying inside the airport.
Following the alleged explosion, the western countries have appealed to their nationals to stay out of the surrounding areas of Kabul Airport.
The evacuation operations carried out by various countries are underway in the Taliban hit Afghanistan. Thousands of diplomats, officials and citizens were airlifted in a bunch of evacuations.
