Farmer pockets Rs 1 after selling 1 Tonne Onions

Despite good crop, The prices of Onions in this season is too low and farmers weren't able to earn at least 25% of their investment.

Devidas Parbhane, a farmer in Maharashtra, earns Rs 1 after selling 1 tone onions. He says suicide will be the only option if the situation of farmers is so pathetic.

The 48-Year-Old grew onions in the 2-acre farm land by shelling out Rs 80,000. on May 10th this year, He sent a loaded truck carrying 952 kg of onions to market yard in Pune. He was paid just Rs 1 rupee 60 paisa per 1 kg onions. The entire load fetched him Rs 1,523.2.

While Rs 1,320 was paid to the truck driver, Rs 202 were spent in the form of Middlesmen commission, labour charges and miscellaneous. In the end, The farmer received just Rs 1 for the crop he produced by working hard for four months.
