In an incident that showed YS Jagan Mohan Reddy Government's determination to root out corruption and rein in Corona spread, the state government has initiated strong action against five top police officials in Visakhapatnam. No government has suspended such a large number of officers in one city anytime in the past.
The government suspended three excise officials and two cyber crime police officials. The three excise officials have tried to help the liquor traders to sell liquor in the black market. They have allowed a sealed wine shop in Pendurthi to sell liquor at high prices. The officials, who went on an inspection to the wine shop, have given a certificate claiming that everything was alright. They did this even after noticing the wine shop selling liquor illegally. However, the locals lodged a complaint, following which the task force police conducted a surprise check. They found the wine shop selling liquor even after it as sealed. Based on their report, the government suspended Gajuwaka assistant excise superintendent R Prasad, Gajuwaka Excise Task Froce CI Srirangam Dora, Pendurthi Excise CI P Muralidhar. They have been asked to report to the head office.
In another incident Vizag commissioner of police RK Meena has suspended Vizag cyber crime police CI V Gopinath and SI N Ravikumar for dereliction of duties. These officers had collected the call data of a VIP and tried to blackmail him. They have also ignored a complaint filed by a woman in connection with a harassment case. The woman reportedly met the commissioner and told him about this. Based on these two complaints, the commissioner of police suspended them.
