Distribution of interim relief notwithstanding, a large section of the voters in the flood-ravaged GHMC seems to be contemplating to boycott the upcoming elections. Another strong section of the GHMC voters also appear to be planning to vote for NOTA whenever the elections are held. This, they see as a protest against the poor infrastructure and the neglect by the GHMC during the flood season.
The GHMC is among the worst affected during the recent floods with over 1500 colonies marooned and over 35 lives lost. Property worth hundreds of crores of rupees was damaged. The GHMC and the government's failure to work for providing amenities and relief have become reasons for the citizen's anger.
The people of Tolichowki, Surya Nagar Colony, Shaikpet and several other areas have decided to vote for NOTA in the GHMC elections. They are also trying to contact other colonies also to join them. If this happens and the mood catches up, NOTA could wreak havoc on the fortunes of politicians, especially in the GHMC where the winning margin is usually very small.
