Putting an end to an era, the former Chief Minister of the most significant state in India, Uttar Pradesh who also served as the Defense Minister passed away today. Veteran politician Mulayam Singh Yadav who created a big impact in state and national politics breathed his last just a while ago. He was 82 when he passed away.
Samajwadi Party Founder Mulayam Singh Yadav is not keeping well for some time and he has been under treatment. As per the information, the former Chief Minister's health deteriorated further last week and the doctors placed him in the ICU set up based on his health condition.
The hospital treating the ace politician issued a statement a few days back on his health and said he was given life-saving drugs. Sadly, the veteran politician could not make it and breathed his last today at Medanta Hospital.
The Samajwadi Party announced the sad news. The political fraternity is mourning his death and leaders across the parties offer condolences. Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to offer condolences. In the tweet, he highlighted how Mulayam Singh Yadav left a mark in Uttar Pradesh and national politics.
"Mulayam Singh Yadav Ji distinguished himself in UP and national politics. He was a key soldier for democracy during the Emergency. As Defence Minister, he worked for a stronger India. His Parliamentary interventions were insightful and emphasised on furthering national interest," Narendra Modi's tweet reads.
The 82-year-old leader had a long political journey. He started his p[olitical journey as an MLA and went on to serve as MP and Chief Minister too. He became the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh thrice.
Mulayam Singh Yadav founded his Samajwadi Party and formed a government in the state by joining hands with other parties. Before BJP became strong in Uttar Pradesh, Yadav and Mayawati were considered the big players, and the main fight would be between them.
He was a Member of Parliament too and served as the Minister of Defence. He also faced severe criticism for his comments on rape. When the Delhi Gang rape happened, he said Boys will be boys and they commit mistakes.
