A pregnant woman on board IndiGo's Delhi-Bengaluru carrier on Wednesday delivered a baby boy prematurely. The IndiGo staff members helped the woman deliver the baby.
The IndiGo airlines confirmed the news and issued an official statement in this regard. In the statement, the airlines announced a Lifetime Free Airline ticket to the baby boy born on air.
The IndiGo airline staff member, who recently spoke to national media, said a gynecologist onboard helped the woman deliver a baby boy without any complications. The staff members made all the required arrangements for the delivery.
Referring to the incident, a private PR agency said, during their training period, the staff members of the IndiGo airlines will be given training on how to handle the situation, if any passengers develop labor pain.
The gynecologist, who helped the woman on the flight listed out the precautions that should be followed by the pregnant women. Pregnant women without any complications like BP and Diabetes can travel on flights up to 28-32 weeks.
If its long-distance, it is advisable to skip traveling on flights after 28 weeks, the gynecologist said.
According to the rules, pregnant women will be allowed to travel on flights with 32 weeks of pregnancy, while in some special instances, the limit can go up to 35 weeks. However, they should produce the certificate to prove she is eligible to travel.
