Winning Nagarjunasagar is the biggest task of the ruling TRS these days. Winning this election is very important in view of the two back-to-back humiliating reversals the party had suffered in both Dubbak and in the GHMC elections. The party wants to regain its lost prestige by retaining the seat.
But, the biggest problem is the anti-incumbency is growing and the BJP, which did not have any presence till now, was emerging increasingly stronger. Internal surveys commissioned by the party leadership showed that the TRS hold is slowly but surely slipping. More worrisome is the rising groupism in the party especially in Nagarjunasagar.
The TRS in Nagarjunasagar is divided mainly into three factions. One is led by Nomula Bharat, son of deceased MLA Nomula Narsimhaiah. Nomula Bharat is using BC card to demand ticket for himself. Similarly, Koti Reddy is another strong contender. He has the backing of Minister Jagadeeshwar Reddy. Even Legislative council chairperson Gutta Sukhender Reddy is eyeing Nagarjunasagar. These three leaders are working to improve their respective bases and are trying to get the party ticket. Unfortunately for the TRS, these three are trying to undercut one another.
The result is that the party is getting weaker in the constituency. If the same trend continues, the party might lose Nagarjunasagar too, say worried party think-tanks. They have reportedly taken the issue to the notice of KCR.
