The trend of Opposition MLAs switching to the Ruling Party picked up post 2014 General Elections. Those who had shifted loyalties managed to get either cash bags or ministerial berths, sometimes both. Are People willing to back Lawmakers who shifted parties for their political gains? What happened in the recently concluded Gujarat Assembly Polls is gonna be a good lesson for defectors and ruling parties.
As many as 14 Congress MLAs indulged in cross voting to favour BJP Candidate in Gujarat Rajya Sabha Polls. This is part of Amit Shah's ploy to defeat Sonia's Political Advisor Ahmed Patel but the mission failed.
On the other hand, BJP Leadership assured tickets for defector MLAs but it didn't fulfill the promise. Just 6 MLAs out of them were able to get tickets in recent Assembly Polls. Only one among them managed to win in the election and that too with a slight majority of 543 votes.
What about the situation of 21 YCP MLAs who joined Ruling TDP? As Centre had already made it clear delimitation of Assembly Constituencies mayn't happen until 2026, Most of these Lawmakers will be denied tickets in the next elections. Even those who obtained tickets mayn't attain people's acceptance.
