Chhath Puja turned tragic in Gujarat on Sunday after a bridge collapsed resulting in over 140 people losing their lives. Reports say that more than 500 people were on top of the hanging bridge at the time of the disaster. As the bridge was on the river the victims drowned and died.
Dozens of families were traumatized by losing their loved ones in the mishap. However, an MP had to face irreplaceable loss as 12 of his family members died in the bridge collapse incident. The MP belongs to the saffron party Bharatiya Janata Party.
Not less than 12 members of Rajkot Bharatiya Janata Party MP Mohanbhai Kalyanji Kundariya passed away including children. The MP shared the details of the disaster speaking to the media and said that even children died in the bridge collapse incident.
As per the version of the BJP MP, the dead victims are from his sister's family. "I have lost 12 members of my family, including five children, in the mishap. I lost family members who were from my sister's family," the ruling party MP said reacting to the news.
During his media interaction, the MP also spoke about the rescue operation done by the NDRF, SDRF, and local administration to save the victims and said the injured victims were shifted to a hospital facility for further treatment. He also said that dead bodies were recovered from the river.
When asked about the government's response to this, the MP said that a detailed investigation will be called to dig deeper into the case and gather more details. He also said that the guilty will not be spared.
