Despite the claim of a booming financial situation and a soaring economy of the state, the Telangana Government is still to pay the salaries of most of its employees, outsourcing and contract workers. It's almost a week into this month and the government employees in most of the districts are still awaiting their salaries. The employees are anxious as this is the festive season that entails considerable expenditure.
The leaders of the employees unions say that the situation has been the same for at least the last six months. The salary payment is being done in phases and by the time the whole process gets completed it would be 15th of the month. This time too, it is not going to be any different, say officials of the treasury department. So far the salaries of 16 districts have been issued. An equal number of the districts remain to be paid. On Thursday, the salaries of the employees in Nalgonda, Jagityal and Suryapet are likely to be paid.
The salaries for the remaining districts would be paid in phases based on the clearance from the government. This month being a month of festivals, there is lot of disquiet among the employees over the delay of the salaries. The employees unions have said that due to the delay, the employees are increasingly getting mired in debts.
Contrary to the claims, only the old salaries, not the revised salaries as per the PRC, are being given to Asha workers, Anganwadi employees and the home guards. The treasury officials say that they did not get any clearance for the issuance of salaries as per the new PRC.
